Lots of small lakes near Mammoth, generally stocked with plenty of trout. Down the road a little is Lake Crowley, up the road is the June Lake area. You can do shore fishing at any of these, or rent boats at the larger lakes in hopes of larger fish.

Big Bear is similar, but there’re only a couple of lakes up there, and you have to deal with the LA crowds. I’ve never fished Tahoe or Mead. I think Mead is a warmer water fishery, (bass, etc.), and it’s HOT in that part of the world this time of year.

If you want to know just about anything to do with fishing, then this website is one of the best I have seen. Loads of good articles which you can read or listen to.

I seem to recall that they also offer a very good free report as well. It’s well worth paying them a visit at http://www.fishinginformationguide.com . I would be interested in hearing what you think.
